The artwork for “Pod Squad” was originally created and published in 1994 by our artist Kelley Balcomb-Bartok. The illustration depicts the “original” J-pod members, circa 1994. The whales of J-Pod, known as Southern Resident killer whales, aka Orcas, are the wild whales featured in the FREE WILLY films. Kelley was captain of the Wildlife Unit for all three films, and created the “Pod Squad” design as the official crew shirt for Walt Conti’s Animatronics team in FREE WILLY 2, filmed in the San Juan Islands.
